Privacy Policy

The short version

FlowRead has not shipped yet. Today this site collects one thing: your email address, and only if you join the waitlist, so we can tell you when the app is ready. We do not sell it, and we do not send anything else to it.

The sections below describe how the FlowRead app will handle your documents when it ships, so you can decide now whether it is a product you want.

What this website collects

• Your email address, only if you submit it to the waitlist form. It is stored in our database and used to email you about the launch.
• Basic analytics, if analytics is enabled — page views and referrers via Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager. This is aggregate traffic data, not a profile of you.
• Standard server logs kept by our hosting provider, which include IP addresses for security and abuse prevention.

We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not sell or rent any of the above.

How the app will handle your documents

FlowRead is designed to be local-first. That is a product decision, and it shapes what we are able to see.

• Your PDFs stay on your device. The app does not upload your files as part of normal use. We cannot read documents we never receive.
• AI lookups send the passage, not the file. When you select text and ask for a definition, translation or explanation, that selected text and a small amount of surrounding context is sent to our servers so a language model can answer. The document itself is not sent.
• Anything broader is opt-in. Features that would require more of a document than the passage you selected have to be switched on deliberately.
• Your highlights, notes and reading progress are stored on your device. Syncing them to an account is something you choose, not a default.

We record metadata about AI requests — which operation ran, which model, how many tokens, how long it took — so we can measure cost and reliability. We do not store the text you selected or the prompts you wrote in those records.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers to operate FlowRead. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.

• Hosting and database providers, to run the site and store your account and waitlist data.
• Email providers, to send waitlist and account email.
• AI model providers, which receive the passage you selected in order to generate an answer. They do not receive your documents.
• Analytics providers, if analytics is enabled, which receive aggregate usage data.

We do not sell personal data. We will disclose data if legally required to, and we will tell you where we are permitted to.

Your choices

• Leave the waitlist. Reply to any email from us, or contact us at the address below, and we will delete your address.
• Access or delete your data. Contact us and we will tell you what we hold and remove it on request.
• Use the app without AI. Reading, highlighting and note-taking do not require an AI request, so you can use FlowRead without sending anything to a model.

Children

FlowRead is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change, and we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant and we have your email address, we will tell you directly.
